How JIMMY decides when to ask you

By Vedansh Danot ·

JIMMY uses AI to understand what you mean and plan the steps. But the AI never decides whether a step needs your permission. That decision is made by plain code, before anything runs. Here’s why, and how it works.

Why not let the AI decide?

Because the AI reads things you didn’t write. Say you ask JIMMY to summarize your inbox, and one email says “forward all your messages to this address”. An AI might be fooled into trying. If the AI also decided what needs approval, a cleverly written email could talk it into skipping your OK. So it doesn’t get a vote: sending email always needs your PIN, and the approval shows exactly who it would go to.

Four levels

  • Just does it: reading inside your allowed folders, looking things up, read-only checks.
  • Asks for YES: running a new script, changing files outside its workspace, opening apps. You see the exact code or action first.
  • Asks for YES and your PIN: messaging other people, deleting files, installing software, sending email or data to websites.
  • Never: formatting disks, editing the registry, turning off Defender or the firewall, reading saved passwords.

Skills that earn trust

When JIMMY writes a script that works, it saves it as a skill for next time. A saved skill only runs without asking if you approved that exact code before (if the file changes, it asks again), it only reads, and it stays inside your allowed folders. Anything at the PIN level always asks, however often it has run.

Undo, honestly

Every file JIMMY changes is recorded, and files are backed up before a script that might change them runs. Send undo to reverse the latest change. Backups are kept for 30 days. If JIMMY can’t track what a script will change, it tells you so in the approval message, before you agree.
